Brick Row Houses

Image
Wrapped in a white skin of perforated blocks, the Brick row House is the result of a renovation of one of the previous generic row houses within a once expensive urban area that was hit by an economic crisis in Cambodia . The architects make use of passive solar design principles as well as expert space planning to create a bright and spacious 50 bedroom townhouse that is superbly ventilated, offers privacy, security and a fair amount of garden space, a far cry from its former self. The previous block was clustered and somewhat complicated, so the designers basically cleared out the ground floor (labeled as first floor on the drawings), situating utilities and vertical circulation along the west wall, to create and fairly large open plan living area with lots of daylight and great cross ventilation, while the spaces at the front and the rear of the home were preserved as parking garage and garden respectively. They also added an extra floor...

MIDCENTURY café

Image
hun phanha           architecture  A beautiful part of the experience of drinking a Café Latte is its refreshing aroma, and the other is the pattern of intertwining swirls within it. We see these swirls translated architecturally in the Midcentury café , designed by Enter Projects. Located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia , this cafe stands out with its literal architecture and Landscape design. the design concepts, using patterns that delicately lace the infamous ‘Café latte’ as the primary design inspiration.” Says the architect. Rigorous space planning was required both front and back of house alongside a well-defined but subtle colour palette which created a comfortable and atmospheric environment. INSIDE OUT HOUSING

Image
The glass house has become an icon of Modern architecture, representing a move towards a certain purity of form, galvanised by distinctly mechanistic materials. At their core these innovative designs were, however, machines for living, built to serve as homes, enfolding and elevating the daily rhythms of domestic life. They're simultaneously true architectural marvels as well as containers for the lives and spirits of those forthese pioneering places. We've collected a few of our favourites to delve a little deeper into life behind theglass walls. It's a format that allows inhabitants to feel truly immersed in the landscape, looking out alongclear lines of sight and allowingthe architecture itself to fall away around them.
